Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

Wk ending 9.11.18

Congratulations to our award winners this week for their hard work in maths.
What an amazing week we have had, despite the weather not being so amazing.
In maths we have been learning to count on and back in 25's, count on and back in 6's and compare numbers beyond 1000.
During literacy this week we have been learning a natural disaster story based in a jungle. We then worked on describing a setting, particularly in a jungle. We used some 'wow' words, or as we now know them: Chilli Sauce words.
We came up with some wonderful description using senses, such as hear birds singing peacefully or see the wind violently blowing the tall trees.
We have planned our own natural disaster stories. I can't wait to read the stories having looked at the plans. I think some will be a real nail-biter and have me sitting on the edge of my seat.
During science this week we investigated how different types of chocolate melted. Some of us were surprised that white chocolate melted first. Our scientific reports explaining the experiment were very accurate.
In topic this week we have completed some geography, looking at where different natural disasters occur around the world. See an example map below.
On Friday we had Rock Steady come in and complete a workshop with us. This was really good fun. We learnt about beats in a song and when to play or not during a song. We even got to try playing on drums, guitar and keyboard along with using microphones to amplify our voices.
See pictures and video clips below.
Next week we will be focussing on our 9 times table in maths. Our words of the week will be: group, promise, probably, straight and strange.
I look forward to having another awesome week with Porthpean.
