Save the Rainforest!

This week in our topic work we have been finding out about the different groups of people with an opinion on how the Amazon rainforest could be used.

In groups, we found out about the reasons each group had for their ideas, from cattle ranchers to native Amazonians; rubber tappers to loggers; environmentalists to new settlers. We presented these different viewpoints to the rest of the class.

We then had a class debate on the question, 'Should Cattle Ranchers and Loggers be allowed to cut down the Rainforest.' The children showed a very mature attitude during the debate, listening to others and explainng their own opinions clearly and sensibly. A final vote on the question led to an overwhelming majority for not destroying any part of the rainforest.
