Parent Open Afternoon has changed from Monday 1st July to Monday 8th July, this is due to Active Week

Wk ending 7th September 2018

It was wonderful to begin the new school year with plenty of excited children waiting to start in their new classroom. As the children enter year 6 and their final year at St Columb Major Academy, there will be many exciting challenges and activities awaiting them! The key theme of our learning this week has been growth mindset and understanding what it takes to be a successful learner. Hard work, a desire to keep improving, trying our best at all times and persevering when things are difficult will be key skills our class are aiming to show this academic year. For our spaghetti bridges challenge, the children had to show plenty of resilience and a growth mindset in order to perfect their design and succeed. Using only spaghetti, string, books and elastic bands, the children had to design a bridge that could support a weight. To commence our maths learning for the year, the children today took part in a maths hunt. The children had to use clues to locate a series of maths challenges scattered around the school and solve the challenges in teams. Well done to all the teams who took part.
