This week we saw first hand what life would have been like for Cornish tin miners in the past.
On Tuesday, Clint from Geevor Tin Mine came into school and led a workshop. The children had the chance to handle historical mining artefacts and learn about what they were and how they were used.
Then, on Wednesday, we took the long bus ride to Geevor Tin Mine. We had a non-stop day; spending the morning looking at some of the buildings on the surface and using some of the tools. After lunch, we made our way through the mill, finding out about what happens to the tin ore when it comes out the ground. We then got a chance to pan for gems (which proved to be the most popular activity of the day) whilst groups were taken into Wheal Mexico.
It was a great insight into our topic on Cornish tin mining and the children and staff both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
