Wk ending 3rd November 2017

Our first week back after half term has been a very busy one!
On Wednesday afternoon, we did our class assembly to the rest of the school. We had been looking at British Values in our  PSHE and Citizenship session, so chose to present this to the other classes. The children  worked in small groups to introduce, explain and sum up the British values (Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths or beliefs). The children worked hard at their presentation skills and the result was an excellent assembly, with their results being rewarded by a deluge of dojos! A big well done to all!
We have also started our new topic on the Ancient Islamic Civilisation. Today the children experienced for themselves the earliest forms of writing which developed in Mesopotamia in around 900 AD. After practising the Cuneiform alphabet by writing their names using pencils, they used clay tablets to do the real thing. See below for some of the results:
Linked to our topic, we are learning about stories from the Arabian Nights as part of our Literacy lessons. The children are thoroughly enjoying some of these different stories and we explored some of the different characters in our art lesson. Excellent teamwork was displyed by all as they worked together on these group collages.
