Wk ending 2nd February 2018

On Monday, we took the long coach trip, along with Porthpean class, to the Falmouth Maritime Museum for more work on Vikings.
We spent the morning exploring the museum:
*going up to the top of the tower to look at the view.
*going to the bottom of the tower to look at the tide line and what we could see below the water.
*looking at the 'Search and Rescue' exhibits - and getting the chance to get in the boats and wear the life jackets.
*looking at all the different types of boats on display, including those used in the Olympics.
*looking at the information on how different boats were made.
*looking at the replica of a Viking boat.
In the afternoon, we took part in some Viking workshops.
The first one we did was about how the Vikings traded. We learned where they travelled to (often the Middle East), the things they took to trade and the things they wanted in return.
We got to handle real artefacts such as wolf fur, an axe head, an amber necklace and chain mail (for the Vikings) and spices, silk and glass beads (from the East).
Then, we split into two teams and practised trading for ourselves.
