Viking Day
Porthpean class spent a whole day today learning about Vikings. Some may have thought that a day of history could be quite boring, but the children were enthused throughout, and were happy to bombard us with facts and insights about the Norse invaders and settlers.
The day consisted of the children making medalions, baking oat cakes, designing and painting their own shield, learning about writing using the runinc alphabet and going on a Viking raid. Lots of learning achieved and great fun had too!
Well done to all who dressed up, the children looked really good in their costumes. I don't think many teachers will have the opportunity to ask their class to leave swords and axes on tables before going to lunch though! A funny moment.
I look forward to continuing this learning on Monday when we go on our Viking themed trip o the Maritine Museum.
