We have had another busy week in Porth class. This week we have been learning all about healthy and unhealthy food. The children had to use their scissor skills to cut items of food and stick them to a green plate if they were healthy and a red plate if they were unhealthy. We had discussions about sugar and fat and why some foods need to be eaten only as a treat. The children were very good at recognising fruits and drinks such as water as being healthy for us. Rosie earned a head teachers award this week as she commented about 'natural foods being healthy for us' and using words such as protein. The children learnt about calcium rich foods and how they are good for our bones and our teeth. Many of the children still seem to think that food such as chocolate and McDonalds are healthy for us. We talked a lot about food that we like is not necessarily good for us!
This week in maths the children have been thinking about one more than a given number. They worked hard and enjoyed this mathematical topic. The children have made super progress with their writing with most children now thinking about writing words. We have been writing signs to keep bears out of our school. The children were very keen to write and we have seen some lovely sentences.
This weeks Dojo achievements go to:
Lowenna for amazing Resilience while constructing with the junk modeling.
Rosie for wisdom as she used super vocabulary, explanations and knowledge about healthy food.
