Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

wk ending 23rd February 2018

The children have had a great first week back after half term and are refreshed after their break.

In maths this week we have been busy thinking about adding and subtracting two single digit numbers. We have used practical items and resources such as pegs, dinosaurs and cars to work out various calculations. The children have been practicing adding numbers by counting objects altogether and holding numbers in their head and counting on. We have even been recording these number problems as formal maths stories. The children have understood this very well and have made great progress.

In Literacy we changed are Gingerbread Man story to create our own story. First we thought about the characters and then what would happen to them. We now have a story about 'The Cupcake Man' who runs away from various wild animals such as lions, zebras and camels. We then changed the ending so the Cupcake Man is eaten by a crocodile! Now we need to decide which version to show parents on Thursday for World Book Day.

The children have been very busy this week writing invitations and labels for their construction models. The children are really embracing writing and applying their knowledge in their free play. There is a strong writing culture in the classroom and the children are fast becoming confident and independent writers.

In PE we started a new unit. We are now practicing ball skills and learning to throw and catch.

Next week we will be focusing on Chinese New Year and making a large dragon head to parade around the school. Have a good weekend!
