Wk ending 23.11.18

Congratulations to our award winners this week.

We have had a very exciting week.
In literacy we wrote our own disaster story about an animal escaping from the zoo. Some of these were very exciting to read and had me on the edge of my seat. We also looked at correct and incorrect spellings, and which word would fit into the sentence. These spellings were homophones, for example which and witch. We managed to work out which word fitted into the sentence and how to make the other word fit into a different sentence.

During maths we had some fun where we looked at numbers on a number line going into negative numbers! We used the concept of a lift in a hotel with a swimming pool on the top floor (i.e number 10) and the car park below 0 (i.e negative numbers). We then moved onto to adding and subtracting numbers including a decimal point. For this we used the concept of money and length (mm, cm, m and km).

In topic we started to look at features of a river. We matched up the correct meaning to the river feature, creating our own glossary.

During science we we have introduced The Water Cycle. We looked at how the water cycle works and the four main stages in the water cycle. These are: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.

Next week we will be focusing on the 12 times table, and our words of the week wil be breath, breathe, woman and women. We will also be starting to look at written news reports and then move onto writing our own!
