What a fantastic week it has been in Watergate class! The children have settled in brilliantly and are becoming much more confident. We have many smiley faces on arrival in the mornings and these continue throughout the day until home time, despite being so tired by the end of their first full week at school.
The week has seen the children explore many new resources, with the balance bikes being a particular hit. Some of the most popular activities this week have been painting self portraits, telling pirate stories using story stones, exploring the muddy kitchen and making collages of our homes.
In Phonics we have been practicing identifying our name this week and thinking about the initial sounds in a range of words, along with playing a range of listening and attention games to support segmenting and blending of words. We are learning a new phonics song which you may hear the children singing as they love it!
In maths we have been focusing on shapes this week. We have looked at 2D shapes and the end of the week saw us exploring the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. We have been learning a numbers song to help us with our counting.
The children have begun to build some lovely friendships with their peers in both Watergate and Porth classes and freely move between the two rooms to have access to all activities and resources across the foundation stage.
Thank you to everyone that came to the Parents Welcome meeting. I hope you found it informative. Please remember to pass your email address to me so that I can sign you up to 2 Build a Profile where you can access your child's learning journey.
