Week ending 7th September 2018

Year 1 has started fantastically; the children have returned from their summer holidays with enthusiasm, wisdom and perseverance during the transition from EYFS to year 1.
During this short week back at school we have taken the time to discuss how we feel about being in year and being in a new class with a new teacher- we shared that it is okay to worried and that there are lots of friends and grown-ups at school that can help.
Our learning this week has been focused on place value of numbers to 20- counting, reading and writing aswell as showing values in pictures. The class have tried hard to explain number facts about different numbers (more/less/mystery number).
In literacy, we have learnt about what a sentence actually is and what we need to do to be able to read the words we are trying to write. We made a checklist: Capital letter at the start, finger spaces and a final full stop to show that the idea has finished. We discovered that a sentence must have a subject (the thing) and a verb (did or doing). The class have created some fantastic sentences, applying their phonics and finding help when required to help segment the sounds.
We have also created and signed a class agreement which we will all work hard to keep to by making good choices to help ourselves and other learn and have fun!
