Another busy and fun week in Porth class.

In phonics the children have learnt 5 more sounds (o, c, k, u and b). They are remembering the previously taught sounds well and gaining confidence to build words with these sounds. The children are writing these in their books and we are seeing lots of writing in children's free play. They are very keen to practice the sounds they have been taught and even thinking about writing words.

We have been learning about numbers and counting in Maths this week. We went out and collected and counted leaves. The children had to work with a friend to check each others counting. The children practiced counting acorns and conkers - remembering to count accurately - not just saying the number names in order. We also ordered numbered leaves, learning to recognise and understand numbers to ten and then beyond. In small groups we practiced recognising numbers and counting the correct number of objects to the numeral.

At the beginning of the week we went on an Autumn walk, talking about all the signs of Autumn. We looked at all the lovely Autumn treasures the children had collected over the weekend and discussed what they had found. These will look lovely on our Autumn display. We also created some Autumn pictures and painted our hands in Autumn colours to make leaves for our display.

We have been dancing in PE. The children really enjoyed the piece of music and listened carefully to the speed and intensity. We told a story about the children creeping out of bed and walking through long grass, jumping and spinning over mud and leaping over rocks before they found the giant. As the music grew with intensity, the children made their movements faster and more dramatic. Next week we will introduce ribbons to add more movement and creativity.
