Week ending 4th May 2018

This week in Literacy we have been learning our new story 'Kassim and the Greedy Pirate's Treasure'. The children have really enjoyed immersing themselves in the story and have applied lots of their newly learnt pirate knowledge in the their ideas and planning. In our spelling and grammar work we learnt about different sentences types and had a go at writing using noun phrases.

In Maths we have been problem solving using column addition and subtraction to help us work out the answers. Our word problems involved, more than step and we had to check very carefully that we had understood all of the information we had been given. We found that there are lots of different ways of saying add, subtract, divide and multiply and we had to use all our detective skills to find them.

In PE, we are working on ball skills and had some great games of piggy in the middle and pepper pot. We are learning to dodge and move into a position where we can receive the ball.

Our ICT lesson was focusing on coding this week and we used the iPad app - Kodable to support our learning. We had to think carefully about how to move the Kodable monster ensuring that we gave it the correct instructions.

  • Next Week
We will begin our SAT's testing next week. On Wednesday we will be completing Reading Paper 1 and on Thursday Reading Paper 2. Please ensure that your child arrives in school on time. We are not announcing to the children that they will be part of formal testing and will try to keep it as low key as possible. Our afternoons will be relaxed and fun to make up for all the hard work we will be doing in the morning!
