Week Ending 2nd November 2018

Welcome back. We hope you had a good half term break.
At least it was a four day week to break the children back in gently!
Some staff could only manage the one day - get well soon, Mrs Hatton! And a huge thank you to the staff who have stepped in to support us. It's been a LONG time since I had to get 30 children changed for PE on my own!

We have still managed to have a full 4 days.

In phonics we have increased the number of sounds we have learnt to 24! This week we have covered: 'j', 'v', 'y' & 'w'.
Only 7 to go - though they are the hardest ones to remember!

In maths we have been making repeating patterns, both simple and some more complex ones. We have used beads & cubes & a computer program to help us make these. And we used our maths books for the first time in which we recorded some of the patterns we created.
In fact, we used our maths book three times this week! Because we also started practicing writing our numbers. We used a little song on the computer to give us some clues (ask your children to sing it for you!) and then, in 2 separate maths sessions, practiced writing number 1 and drew 1 thing to go with it and then number 2 and 2 things to go with it.
We will normally do this once a week - can you guess what we will be doing next week?!?!

We started learning our first shared story with a story map - the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have learnt the whole story as a year group with added actions to help us remember it all. It's going well so far!
We also had other activities based around the story - a story telling scenario with the characters in the setting (see photo on the right) and we used pictures from the story to sequence and re-tell it.
Next week it will form part of out writing session.

PE was a good session. We used the ribbons & music again but this time we had to work with a partner & mirror what they were doing in movement and with the ribbon. The children really enjoyed this and there were some fantastic moves and ribbon work!

Can I also remind everyone that we do PE on a Thursday and all children need to have a PE kit in school on Thursdays.
A PE kit is: t-shirt and shorts - and that's all that's needed at the moment!
Thanks.
