Week Ending 28th September 2018

Another busy week in Watergate.

In phonics this week we have been learning the sounds 't', 'i', 'n', 'p' and 'g'. We have been finding words that begin with these sounds or have them in it. With CVC words (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) we have been sounding them out & getting the children to tell us the whole word. For example: 'd-i-g' - dig; 'p-i-n' - pin; etc. And using the rhymes (we sent home a copy) we have been practicing writing the sounds. The children are trying really hard.

We tried writing for the first time. We all drew a picture of our family (who lives at home with us) and tried to write their names. Some children are already using the phonics learnt up to now, e.g. an 'm' or 2 for mum and the whole of 'd' 'a' 'd'!

We have been consolidating our knowledge and understanding of number. We have been counting to 20 and counting & ordering objects & numbers to 10. The children have all really enjoyed singing the '10 Green Bottles' song.
We have also looked at some 2D shapes, their names and simple properties and looked at and named simple 3D solids.

We started going to assembly and this has gone quite well so far. Another addition to the routine but they're coping well.
And our first proper PE session went very well - yes, I was surprised! Not at the PE itself - lots of balancing on benches and going under & through equipment - but the changing. Most children did very well. As parents you've obviously been putting in a lot of work in helping the children to get dressed and undressed by themselves. So thank you. Keep up the good work!

Next week we will start looking at Autumn. If you go on a walk and find anything Autumnal that would be good to send in (conkers, acorns, the odd colourful leaf or 2) please do so we can all share.

Have a restful weekend.
