Week ending 22nd September

This week Porthcothan have successfully been putting in to practise the daily routines of year 1. They have all shown great perseverance and willingness to adapt to the new environment in year 1 and are continuing to impress us by their great attitude to learning.
They participated in learning songs, creating artwork and going on their first trip outside of school.
Despite the rain, we had an enjoyable visit to the Church to showcase the effort, as a key stage, that has been put in to learning and practising songs to celebrate the festival.

This week has been all about the value of numbers up to 10, reasoning which numbers have more or less value, gaining an awareness of how to represent numbers as words and how to recognise patterns.
Our fluency time has allowed us to practise:
Days of the week
Months of the year
Odd and Even numbers
Counting in 10's to 100 and back( which lead on to counting in 100's once we recognised the pattern!)
Counting from 0-100 and back
Counting in 2's to 20.

In Literacy we have continued to learn the story of the Tin Forest in more detail and wrote the story independently. We have painted a grey landscape with the key features of the story which are drying ready for display.Daily phonics is helping us listen for sounds for reading and writing, we are getting quicker and more fluent each day!
