St Columb Major Academy is now open for Keyworker and vulnerable children

Week ending 22nd June 2018

Another busy week in Porthcothan with lots of learning, laughter and curiosity.
We have learnt a new story 'Duffy's lucky escape!' which tells the tale of a Sea Turtle who gets pushed out of its tropical home by a ferocious storm in to unknown waters; Duffy is hungry and mistakes plastic for a jellyfish and ends up needing an operation! We have learnt about how to make our writing more interesting with adjectives, verbs and adverbs, exclamation marks and how root words with suffixes can be used.
Money! Money! Money!
Porthcothan have been identifying the value of British coins and notes. We have added money together to find new whole amounts, explored which coins can show different amounts and if different objects can be bought with specific coins. We have been working on our explanations to prove our answers- "I know this because..."
In RE, we learnt a Buddhist parable called 'The Monkey King' whereby a big sacrifice was made. We created our own monkeys and recorded the different emotions throughout the parable.
Forest school has been enjoyed by all; the children have helped Blackberry look after nature by leaving magical potions, they have made very powerful wands using unique sticks and twigs as well as printing leaves.
Ivy, Noah and Tyler were all awarded a Dojo certificate in this weeks celebration assembly. They have all used their wisdom and perseverance to make good choices, try hard and be resilient.
Well done to you all.
