Parent Open Afternoon has changed from Monday 1st July to Monday 8th July, this is due to Active Week

Week ending 2.11.18

Welcome back to the start of the 2nd Autumn Term!
This week we have started our new topic on 'The Great Fire of London' (GFOL). We incorporated our literacy focus of instructions with history by baking some bread. We followed the instructions very carefully and made some very tasty bread rolls. We hope you enjoyed eating them as much as we enjoyed making them. For the rest of the week we have focussed on Imperative verbs (a teachers favourite kind because they are so BOSSY!)
In Maths, we recapped place value and addition. We practiced using bead strings to help us and made sure that we counted accurately. Reasoning is now a huge part of the Maths curriculum and we are developing our understanding by thinking carefully about how we can prove something and the language we use to explain it.
In History, we learnt about GFOL through the eyes of Samuel Pepys. We learnt that he kept a diary which he wrote in a secret code and buried his most treasured possessions (cheese and wine) in the garden to save them from the fire.
In Science, we began our topic by recapping what we remember about materials from Year 1. We will be looking at the uses of different materials  and linking this in with our history work too.
We had our final swimming session this week and had great fun with our instructors. The children have made phenomenal progress in all areas. From next week we will have PE twice a week so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.
On Tuesday next week half of the class will be heading across the road for Forest School with Miss Small, our Forest School leader. On the letter that came home at the end of last term, you will see 3 dates on which your child will be attending. Please make sure you send your child in with the appropriate clothing and wellies for each session.
