Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

Week Ending 19th October 2018

Mawgan Porth have thoroughly enjoyed our Healthy and Active Week. We were inspired by the Paralympic Bronze Medalist, Melissa Reid. The children asked interesting questions during our workshop with her, such as, 'what food do you eat to stay healthy and strong? and 'how many hours a day do you train for?'
Healthy and Active Week was all about trying new things and learning about how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The children were delighted to take part in sports such as Yoga and Boccia and were spreading kind and supportive messages to their class members during the activities.
We explored healthy eating by learning about the eat well plate and the children did a super job of catagorising food into the different food groups. We all really enjoyed creating a healthy lunch during our open afternoon and have written a shopping list of food we could have as part of a balanced diet. Thank you to all the parents who attended the open afternoon!
Mindfulness and mental health was also a focus for Healthy and Active Week; we spent some time talking about our emotions and how we can keep our minds healthy by sharing our thoughts with people we trust. The children produced some beautiful colouring during our mindfulness activity and really enjoyed the yoga activities on GoNoodle.
The children has a fantastic last day at school on Thursday. They finished the term in style, we had a mix of modern day superheros and make believe superhero costumes. Brilliant effort from everyone!
The day started off well, with a visit from the Police Officers, the Police Dog Controllers and a Firefighter! The children learnt so many useful and interesting facts which we then wrote down in our Literacy lesson. The children were awarded numerous Dojos for super listening and good manners. Well done.

In the afternoon the children studied Andy Warhol. We spoke about Pop Art and described some of his famous pieces. We then had a go at doing our own Pop art designs using the Ipad.
Finally, the children had a wonderful time t the Halloween Disco that afternoon.
Thank you to all the parents for your wonderful support this half term. We hope Mawgan Porth class have a fun and safe half term break!
