IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS: St Columb Major ACE Academy are being inspected by Ofsted today - Tuesday 15th January.

Week ending 16th November 2018

This week we began with thinking about Remembrance Day. We looked at a child friendly video and talked about why we remember men and women who have been to war and why we wear poppies. We also looked at some pictures on the internet of the parades and the poppy reef. The children then coloured poppy pictures.

In Maths this week the children have been practicing counting. We have counted actions and thought about how to record this. We have also practiced matching numeral to quantity. We looked closely at the numeral, counted objects carefully and remembered to stop counting when we got to that number. Quite a skill!

We have learnt our last sound in set 1 for phonics and are now beginning our assessments to see how much the children have remembered. They have certainly made good progress and are enjoying their phonics.

We continued our theme of Diwali and made Diva lamps with clay. We will decorate these with glitter next week. They will look lovely on our light and dark display. The children also made Rangoli patterns with the rice that we coloured last week.

In literacy the children have been practicing writing in their books. First they drew a picture and then wrote words or sentences to go with this. I am amazed at how many children are attempting to write sentences so early on in Reception. Well done Porth class! All children have made progress since they last wrote in their books.

Wednesday we thought about anti bullying week. Some children wore odd socks to raise awareness of this. We also read a story about a Troll who was a bit of a bully.
