Parent Open Afternoon has changed from Monday 1st July to Monday 8th July, this is due to Active Week

Week ending 14th September 2018

We have had another busy and exciting week in Porthcothan.
We have learnt our new 'Story Supertato' and have got off to a heroic start! In literacy we have learnt the story 'Supertato' whereby the children made predictions about what they think might happen, who the characters would be and how it might end. They made their very own Supertato whilst sharing adjectives about the character. They wrote speech bubbles to show what the character was saying at the most problematic part of the story and have began to make their own changes to the story by creating their own characters. We have been focusing on forming our letters correctly, not letting tricky red words trick us and sitting our letters on the line. We have also been using our Fred talk to help hear the sounds in words.
We have met our different reading teachers for Read Write Inc. and have got off to a super start learning our new sounds.
During one of our math lessons, we took our learning outside to help us to count backwards. We started by walking backwards whilst counting backwards from different numbers. We then explored the surroundings and gathered natural objects to match the value of the number written.
We have learnt about Florence Nightingale; who she was and why she is an important person in history. During PE, we practised our ball handling and control as well as communicating within a team- it was very exciting!
A fantastic start to the year with super attitude to learning- well done Porthcothan!
Helpful details
Please find attached letter formation chart with the Read Write Inc. rhymes which your child is familiar with to form each letter. Pleae refer to the letters by their name (a-ay) and then the sound it makes (a-ah) to help them recognise the names and the sounds for reading and writing.
Thankyou to those of you that were able to attend the parent welcome meeting- it was lovely to see so many of you and speak to some too.
