Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

Week ending 14th December 2018

What a busy week we have had!
We read the story 'The Christmas Collar' and then discussed the events before ordering them using pictures from the story. We then used our knowledge of adjectives to create interesting openings to hook the reader for the start of the story. In the story, Dasher the reindeer was lost so we made wanted posters to help Father Christmas find him in time. We had to be specific with our descriptions and consider how old he was and what he character would be like.
On Wednesday, we had a Christmas lunch with crackers and funny jokes to read and share with each other.
On Thursday, we had our performance 'Little Angel gets her wings' which we performed in front of lots of parents. All of our handwork and effort paid off as we put on a fantastic performance with lots of energy and confidence- Well done year 1!
On Friday, we traveled on a coach and went to the Eden Project. We explored the Mediterranean and Rain forest biomes and were able to compare their similarities and differences. We discovered different types of plants, creatures and sculptures. After our biome visit, we prepared for the ice! We played on the ice using sledges, trikes and lots of other toys. It was a great opportunity to feel and play in Winter conditions. We worked up a big appetite so returned to the hub for lunch before continuing our exploration around the site.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and the Children represented St Columb Major admirably.
