Week ending 13th October 2017

This week in Literacy we have been writing newspaper reports. Our first was about Supertato capturing the evil pea and our second was a report about Grace Darling's daring rescue back in 1838.  We thought of catchy headlines and even made up some quotations from key characters/people. We thought carefully about how to keep the reader interested and came up with some lovely facts to engage our audience.

In Numeracy we have been learning how to find fractions of shapes. We focused on finding 1/2, 1/4, 2/4 and 1/3! We used a range of strategies to help us such as using cubes, arrays and even made pretend pizza's to demonstrate our learning.

A week after starting our 'how germs spread' experiment using pieces of bread in science, we finally got to see the results. In the words of the children it was 'disgusting' to see how mouldy the bread we wiped with our germ, dirty hands had got. See pictures below. We have decided as a class that we are definitely going to wash our hands a lot more!

Over the past few days we have had a number of children falling out or feeling upset about things that have been happening with their peers. We have addressed that today through our circle time activity. We discussed how it feels to be left out, when you fall out with a friend and when we say things we don't really mean. The children listened carefully and had some great ideas about how we can be kind to everyone in our class, the best one being that we are like a family and we need to look out of each other. Please do let me know if anything arises at home about this issue and I will try to deal with it quickly.
