Week ending 12th October 2018

Another busy week in Porth class.

This week we have been adding more work to our Autumn display. We made more hedgehogs with leaves and made some woodland animals with clay. The children thought about the animal they wanted to make, looked at pictures from a book and the decorated them with leaves or sticks. We even added our own tree and covered it with their Autumn coloured hand prints as Autumn leaves.

In maths this week we have been thinking about shapes. We have been naming and describing 2D shapes and playing games with them. We sorted these shapes thinking about the number of corners, sides and if they were curved or straight. We also thought about sorting by size or colour.

We told the story of the cat on the mat. The children drew a picture from the story and then wrote some CVC words in their books. The children are remembering and applying the phonics they have been taught. Some children were even able to write a small caption.

The children really enjoyed writing CVC words at the writing table this week and are growing in confidence with using their phonics. The children have been busy outside ordering numbers too.

In PE this week we added ribbons to our dance moves from last week. The children really thought about using high and low spaces and the different ways they could move their arms and ribbons, They listened carefully to the music. We also practiced some mindfulness at the end of our PE sessions and spoke about how to stay healthy in our minds as well as our bodies.

Next week is Healthy Active week so we look forward to a week filled with sport and learning about healthy eating.
