Week ending 02.11.18

Well done to Finlay and Alia for their DOJO certificates this week!

We have been busy learning about the Great Fire of London (GFOL) this week to launch our new topic.

The children showed fantastic resilience on Tuesday doing their common exception word test to see which ones they already know - there's 64 in total! On Wednesday we made bread to start our unit on instructions and of course because the GFOL started in a bakery on Pudding Lane. We have been picking out the features of instructions ready to help us write our own next week. It will be linked to Bonfire night so we've been reminded to listen out for instruction and imperative (bossy) verbs!

In maths we have revisited place value and done some mastery challenges to extend and deepen our thinking and we've also visited some addition to check out knowledge before moving on to multiplication and division next week.

In the afternoons we have been delving into our topic learning how and where the fires started  and looking at how far it spread. We've been really excited to learn new facts. In art we have started creating GFOL paintings which we will be cutting out silhouettes for next week and in science we have been looking at different materials and their uses. We will be using our knowledge to help us make boats that float to help people escape the GFOL.

Next Friday we will be starting Swimming so please make sure your forms are back by Tuesday to give me chance to group the children ready for our first session.
