Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

w/c 30th October

We have started our topic on 'Route 66'. The children are very excited by their introduction to American History and Geography. We have been thinking about how the United States became independent from Britain and the gift of the 'Statue of Liberty' from France. The children were surprised to learn in Science that the statue was made of copper and changed colour over time due to the corrosion and verdigris. The class have been drawing the statue and using different mediums to create the colour.
The class have been looking at the picture of 'Cristina's World'. They wrote in different styles to respond to the key questions about who she might be and what her life might have been like in America.
Come and see our new writing display in Tolcarne!
Our new class text is 'Tom Sawyer'. The children have been learning about the history of American society through the reading of the well known tale of an adventurous boy who did not always follow the rules, but learns that doing the right thing is the best decision in the end.
Our favourite chapter so far is Tom persuading his friends to help him paint the fence!
Our Literacy unit is all about persuasion. The children have been looking at how people can be persuaded to visit different places. We looked at the formula AFOREST to focus our persuasive powers.
Rhetorical questions
Emotive language
We have starting learning a persuasive piece about the Statue of Liberty'.
