Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

w/c 1st October

In Maths this week we have been practising different ways of subtracting bigger numbers. The children have worked in groups or independently on a range of challenging fluency, reasoning and problem solving activities.
We have looked at decomposition and formal subtraction using tower sums and have also looked at expanded subtraction using partitioning and place value to calculate.
To help you understand these we have made you some short video clips of how we have worked these out. We hope you enjoy our teaching clips and find them useful.

In our Art lessons we have been looking at drawing figures. We studied the work of Lowry and his Matchstick Men and Matchstick Cats and Dogs. The class learnt about the way in which Lowry showed the people of industrial Britain, their factories, homes and cities. It was interesting to see all the different images of how the people lived.
We tried to draw our own Lowry inspired figures. We used the basis of a stick man and then added the features. We designed our figures in charcoal. Some of them were very well done. The class listened to the song about Lowry. They said that it sounded old fashioned but they really liked it. They were surprised to learn that it was once number 1 in the charts.
