Day of Action for Climate Change Parents and pupils may be aware that Friday 20th September will mark another day of global action and protest, to raise awareness and understanding of the many complex issues surrounding global Climate Change. Kernow Learning Trust recognises the vital importance of educating our pupils about the developing climate emergency, and have committed as a Trust to ensuring that all of our schools work to ensure that our pupils know that they are Global Citizens with a responsibility for our global environment. Every school in the Trust has a ‘Global Learning’ Leader and all schools are currently engaging in training to deliver ‘Global Learning’ to their staff. We cannot encourage pupils to be absent from school on this Friday, due to our duty of care for our pupils, but we have decided to enable pupils to show their solidarity with the Climate Change movement through a series of initiatives in our schools in the forthcoming weeks and months ahead. Our schools will teach more about the challenges that we face through issues such as plastic pollution, recycling and saving energy. We are very proud to have Eden as a member of our Trust and so consideration of the challenges that will face our children’s generation, and how they can influence future developments through their actions is never far from our Trust discussions.

Residential Y1 and 2 - Porthpean 2019

Year 1 & 2 Porthpean Camp
We arrived on Wednesday morning and immediately got our tents ready for the tent inspection competition! Each tent decided on a name and then set about making their spaces look immaculate. Mr Rowles was our camp judge and set the bar very high on what they needed to do to score a 10.
After lunch we headed out for our first activities. We split into 2 groups and had a go at Archery and Climbing. It was great fun and lots of children faced their fears with true courage on the climbing wall. After dinner we took a leisurely walk down to the beach, where the children skimmed stones and hunted for sea glass to make a mosaic. After a long walk back up the steep hill to camp, the children settled down in their pj's with hot chocolate.
Thursday - Beach Day
After a scrumptious cooked breakfast we headed down to the beach for a day of Kayaking and Canoeing. The weather was lovely and the sea was calm. In groups we paddled out to secret beaches and jumped off the sides of vessels into the clear blue (slightly chilly) water. Everyone had a great day and were well and truly exhausted when we arrived back at camp.
Our evening's entertainment was provided by the children who came up with lots of different acts for our St Columb Major's Got Talent Show. After hot chocolate and some biscuits, our very tired children settled down for the night.
After packing up our tents we headed out for our last day of activities. We had great fun exploring the site in our Orienteering session and we made some super dens in our den building and problem solving session.
The children were complimented by instructors and other schools alike on their excellent behaviour and politeness. Well done Year 1 and 2 we are very proud of you.
