February 2019

Another super month in Pentire class with plenty of exciting learning and resilience on display. We have been continuing our Maths, Reading and Writing work in our groups this term, moving around to work with different teachers in different classrooms. The Year 6 pupils continue to show excellent determination and enthusiasm towards becoming the best learners they can be. A massive well done to all the Year 6 children for this.

As many of the children are fascinated with the wonderful story of Harry Potter, we have been focusing our literacy writing on these famous stories. The children have been learning to write explanation texts with a magical theme. We looked at a range of magical artefacts and activities from Harry Potter including: wands, broomsticks and the fascinating game of quidditch. Armed with this knowledge, the children wrote explanation texts on their history, how they are used and the rules for using them. It was fantastic to witness how enthusiastic the children were about our magical theme and putting their creative ideas into practice.

In Maths we have been learning about the concept of ratio and applying this knowledge to a range of different, real life contexts. Additionally, we have been learning about algebra and how to solve missing values in algebraic equations. The children have worked super hard during these units and have shown what wonderful mathematicians they are. As ever, we continue to excel in our arithmetic challenges and I am proud of how the children encourage each other and celebrate each other’s successes when they achieve their personal best score. Well done to all of them.

In Science this half term, we have concluded our light investigations and have really enjoyed having the opportunity to complete lots of practical experiments. We will be moving onto electricity in the next month as well as completing experiments for British Science Week. The theme of the week will be journeys and our class are looking forward to completing a range of experiments linked to this theme. A final well done to the whole class and we look forward to another month of exciting learning ahead.
