May 2019

Well another fabulous month.  The work is racing on with great aplomb!  The children are really becoming more resilient and trying to solve their own problems independently   We learnt a Mayan Creation Myth and wrote our own versions. In Maths, we carried on with fractions and did some really hard calculations including adding and subtracting fractions and fractions of amounts.  No swindling the children out of cake now. Sorry!

We found out all about the Mayans both in class and in our outdoor learning.  We found out where and when they lived.  We seemed especially excited about the sacrifices to their gods.  The children could recall lots when we built Mayan cities outside on the field  (thank you for the boxes).  They could identify what the building was and what it was used for.

In Science, we learned all about skeletons with the help of Bony Tony AKA Mr Bones.  We loved making our mini skeletons.

In PSHE we have continued to think about how we can calm ourselves down if we are feeling anxious or afraid, through breathing deeply, counting and hand massage.

We have played striking and fielding games (E.g. cricket and rounders) in PE and learnt the skills to help us.  Bowling and batting, throwing and catching.

This term’s topic is “Chocolate”.  We will find out where it comes from, how it is made, Fair Trade and I will be checking out how it tastes, obviously. (But only as part of a healthy balanced diet).  We will keep you up to date through Dojo class story about exciting new learning this term.
