May 2019

We've had a very busy half term with our SATs. We've worked incredibly hard revising, refreshing and then having our SATs tests.
On our last day of half term we visited Pendennis Castle in Falmouth. Our topic next half term is We do Like to be beside the Seaside with our History being 'Then and Now'. We spent the morning exploring the castle and seeing various artifacts including canons and guns. We went through the tunnels to explore what was on the other side. Lots of us were a bit scared going through the tunnels as they were rather dark and very echoey! We found old guns which were in a camouflaged building, they were used to shoot down planes during the war.
We sat in the grounds of the castle to have our lunch where we realised we could see into the kitchen which we had walked down to earlier in the morning.
We loved seeing the giant oven used to cook dinner for the soldiers and King's servants.
In the afternoon we had a workshop to learn more about the people who would have lived in the castle, including Henry the 8th whom the castle was built for. Corey dressed up as Henry!
Next we explored some artifacts from workers in some boxes and had to work out what jobs the people did. There was some great discussion and really interesting things. Have a look at our photos to see us dressed up as soldiers and pot boys!
We were incredibly lucky on this trip to have our bus paid for by The Cornwall Heritage Trust. Thank you!
We took our Maths outside on Outdoor Learning Day. We walked around the school grounds looking for objects which are symmetrical. We found lots of interesting things including a light, the benches, the fence in the top playground and the throwing targets too! We then had some chalk and drew symmetrical shapes on the playground marking their lines of symmetry.
