March 2019

March has been another busy but brilliant month.

In Literacy the children have been writing their own explorers stories based on the book ‘lost and found.’ We have continued to focus on handwriting and punctuation with the introduction of inverted commas. We have ended the month learning how to write letters. This week the children all wrote letters to either the Queen or the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla. The children have absolutely loved writing their letters and we have been very impressed with their hard work especially with their handwriting.

In Maths the children have been working hard to understand place value and use this knowledge to add and subtract numbers. They have been counting in tens and ones forwards and backwards from any number. They have then used this knowledge to begin to solve one and two step word problems. We are very proud of their resilience and the way they have taken on this challenge.

In our topic work the children have designed and made their own lunch boxes and particularly enjoyed an afternoon of junk modelling in order to create their designs. In history we have looked at many explorers including Christopher Columbus, Neil Armstrong and Tim Peak. We watched videos of the moon landing and Tim Peaks launch. Many of the children would now like to be astronauts! In P.E we have been focussing on ball skills, in particular tennis and have seen many mini tennis stars in the making. In I.C.T the children have been working on their laptop skills and have been able to type, change the colour and size of their writing and also with help copy and paste a picture.

It’s been a great March and we are now looking forward to April.
