Day of Action for Climate Change Parents and pupils may be aware that Friday 20th September will mark another day of global action and protest, to raise awareness and understanding of the many complex issues surrounding global Climate Change. Kernow Learning Trust recognises the vital importance of educating our pupils about the developing climate emergency, and have committed as a Trust to ensuring that all of our schools work to ensure that our pupils know that they are Global Citizens with a responsibility for our global environment. Every school in the Trust has a ‘Global Learning’ Leader and all schools are currently engaging in training to deliver ‘Global Learning’ to their staff. We cannot encourage pupils to be absent from school on this Friday, due to our duty of care for our pupils, but we have decided to enable pupils to show their solidarity with the Climate Change movement through a series of initiatives in our schools in the forthcoming weeks and months ahead. Our schools will teach more about the challenges that we face through issues such as plastic pollution, recycling and saving energy. We are very proud to have Eden as a member of our Trust and so consideration of the challenges that will face our children’s generation, and how they can influence future developments through their actions is never far from our Trust discussions.

June 2019

Well, another month gone and less than a month to go this school year. It hardly seems a year ago that the children were visiting for their Learning Together sessions and now they're nearly Year One! Time flies, as they say.

June has been a packed month - as always!

The children have written fabulous stories about Goldilocks, but when she was grown up. The end of the normal story finished with a picture (see below of her fighting a dragon and saying that she had many adventures. So we made up the story of how she got to be fighting the dragon and what happened to the treasure chest full of gold  by her feet. Some lovely ideas, vocabulary and above all writing.

In Maths we have been working hard on our number work with lots of addition and subtraction and using numbers in may ways including using money to buy things in our class shop. We have also been doing lots of counting including in 2s, 5s and 10s.

PE has been trying more Maypole Dancing. Sadly we never got to complete our routine due to the hall being out of use and practicing for Sports Day next month. But everyone thoroughly enjoyed what we did. Some final videos are below.

We were lucky to have some tadpoles in the class. Many of the children were fascinated with them and spent a long time drawing pictures and writing about them.

The children have been working hard with their numbers, ordering them to 20 and thinking about adding and taking away using practical resources.

We have also been outside a lot and the weather has been kind to us. The children are enjoying the mud kitchen.

We also had a PSHE session about behaviour in school and making good choices about how to treat all the resources and equipment we have in Reception as well as how to work with our friends in the class.
There will be more PSHE next week (see the next blog - the last month of this year!) and we will be reinforcing this plus talking about friendships and working together, being kind to everyone and who to talk to in school when we need support.
