Happy Summer Holiday - keep safe and sound. Looking forward to seeing children and families back to school on Thursday 5th September 2019

January 2019

We started this year off with our Jungle topic. The children came to school dressed as their favourite jungle animal and have been learning lots of facts and information about them. We have started learning our new class story - Monkey See Monkey Do. The children are now able to re-tell the story using the story map and actions for support. The children have written information about the animal they were dressed as. Most children are now working on writing sentences, thinking about using a full stop at the end.

In Maths, we have continued our understanding  of numbers. We have been counting, ordering and practising adding single digit numbers. We have also been naming and describing 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We have also learnt about symmetry, decorating butterflies and using mirrors to find the line of symmetry.

In PE we have been dancing and moving like jungle animals. We listened to music and moved our bodies in different ways. We have also started some gymnastics work. We looked at pictures so we understood how to hold our bodies and move in different ways. We have started with balancing on different parts of our bodies. We will develop this in the next few weeks by linking balances with different ways of travelling.

We have been using the musical instruments once a week. We have been learning about volume and tempo. The children watched the conductor carefully and played quietly and loudly and gradually changing between the two. We also practised playing fast and slow. We have now started to thinking about following and copying a beat.

We have been lucky to receive our new waterproof clothing this month. We had plenty of rain before the snow arrived to test them out! The children enjoyed running in the rain and splashing in puddles.
