Autumn 1 - 2019

What a great start to the year.  We have really started the year well and put in lots of effort making our work not only contain great learning, but looking beautiful too!  The children are really becoming more resilient and trying to solve their own problems, independently.   We have learnt ‘The Mousehole Cat’ and wrote our own versions. In Maths, we have been looking a place value and multiplying in multiples of 10, 100 and 5 and 50.  Faster counting is always useful.

We have been finding out about the Neolithic (Stone Age).  We found out how and when Neolithic people lived.

In Science, we learned all about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, where they are formed, how and how to identify them.

In PSHE we have looked at what to do if we feel worried using ‘The Big Bag of Worries’ book.

We have started looking at balances in PE and have done some great swimming too.

This term’s topic is “Cornwall”.  We will find out where it is, facts and places and what makes it such a great place to live.  We will keep you up to date through Dojo class story about exciting new learning this term.

We are starting to try to remember KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts) in topic, so I have attached a copy of the things we are learning and key words for you to look through and quiz your children.   To help develop children’s fluency in mathematics, we ask them to learn Key Instant Recall Facts each half term. We expect children to practice their KIRFs at least 3 times a week.

So when asked “What have you learnt today?”  They can answer with some of the KIRFS.
