Autumn 1 - 2019

We have had a great first half term in Fistral class learning new routines and adjusting to life in Year 2.

We started practicing the daily mile where we run for 15 minutes with the aim of completing a mile in this time. It's been hard work but our fitness is steadily improving.

In Maths, we have focussed heavily on place value. We have used a variety of resources to support our learning. Alongside this we have been counting in 2, 3, 5 and 10's each day practicing it verbally and in the written form.

Our Literacy has been based upon the story of Funnybones - a wishing tale. We have created our own versions and really concentrated on improving our letter formation and sentence construction. Spelling has been an area where we are working really hard - we are learning how to use our speed sounds chart to aid our spelling choices.

Topic work has been based on Nighttime and Nocturnal Animals. We have learnt about a range of Nighttime creatures and used this information to write a non-chronological report in Literacy. We learnt some interesting facts like the Aye Aye from Madagascar has a long middle finger which it uses to get grubs out of trees!

In PE, we have been doing gymnastic and cardio vascular activities. We used Joe Wicks HIIT workout for kids to look at ways of improving our fitness and in gymnastics we learnt about balancing and rolling.
