April 2019

Despite the 2 week break in the middle of April we still managed to cram an awful lot into April!
The final week before the holidays was spent having a go at different types of reading and maths questions that might crop up in our Year 2 SATs. We looked at a range of strategies to ensure that we could choose the one we were most comfortable with.
In DT, we completed our design project, where we made a lunchbox for an explorer. We tested our designs and as a class we evaluated each others, giving suggestions of how we thought they could be improved.
We returned to school on Wednesday 24th April in fine spirits, the lovely weather and exciting activities we got up to, gave us plenty to talk about. Our topic for this half term is 'A Twist in the Tale', we will be investigating materials in Science and looking at traditional tales with a slightly different perspective in literacy.
We kicked off Literacy by learning the traditional tale 'The Three Little Pigs' and then planned some interesting changes which hopefully will make for a fun read. Our words of the week are focussing on spelling patterns, and looking how the root word changes when we add ed, ing, s and es.
In Maths, we are recapping our place value skills and using them to answer addition and subtraction questions. We are continuing to count forward and backwards from different numbers and using what we know about multiplication and division to solve missing number sums.
May sees the start of our statutory testing period and we will be holding a Parents information meeting on Monday 29th April at 3.30pm in Fistral class. We will be handling these tests sensitively and hopefully the children will enjoy the extra activities we have planned for them.
